I’d like to package up the world so it’s only filled with beauty and love for you…but I can’t do that.
I want to shield you so that you will never experience pain or loneliness…but I can’t do that.
I wish I could give you sunshine every day and only have it rain at night so it wouldn’t stop us from playing outside…but I can’t do that.
I’d like to stop all of your bad dreams so they never exist…but I can’t do that.
I want to prevent any tears from ever falling from those pretty eyes…but I can’t do that.
I hope to forever erase days when you feel ugly, stupid, or unworthy…but I can’t do that.
So how will you ever know how much I love you?
Because I will show you all the beauty and love in the world so its ugliness won’t consume you.
I will make sure that when you feel pain or hurt or loneliness that you know it’s only for a little while because hope and love will drive those things out.
I will show you that sunshine is great but dancing in the rain can be just as awesome.
I will silence your bad dreams with the truth so you know where the dream ends and the reality of faith and hope begins.
I will show you how to laugh through the tears as I teach you what you are worth.
I will tell you how beautiful you are every day, how smart you are every day and how great you are every day so you will never doubt and see yourself how I see you.
Maybe I can’t stop what life will bring you but I can stop how it affects you. I can stop the lies and show you the truth: that Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
