As a country we have so much pride in who we are and what we can achieve. We’re the land of “opportunity” and we fight for freedom and liberty with justice for all. We jump into wars to help those who need us; or so we think. We created the “American Dream” as an outline for personal achievement and something to strive for. We’re the picture of Freedom but perhaps we’re a bit too free.

If I ever had the opportunity to stand before our Founding Fathers: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Washington I’d be inclined to offer my deepest apologies. These men were God-fearing and wanted to form a nation that would be unstoppable. A nation that would be the standard for how all other nations should be judged. Unfortunately, they never knew that we would eventually destroy each other.

We’re supposed to be  the United States, but we’re far from united. We have the ability to think freely and practice what we believe and even say whatever we want to but we’ve made an enormous mistake. We’re so far from where we’re supposed to be that there’s a very good chance we’ll never be what we were destined to be “…..One Nation Under God, Indivisible, For Which it Stands, With Liberty And Justice For All.”

We’re so consumed with fighting over things that should be elementary that we lose sight over those things that are most important. Together we can heal a world, but we’re so selfish and proud that we’re actually leaving a path of destruction behind us. Debates over abortion, same sex marriage, doctor assisted suicide and cloning should all be nullified for a nation that supposedly “under God”. Under God there is no abortion allowed, under God there is only a marriage between a man and a woman, under God a doctor assisted suicide is murder and wrong, under God cloning is wrong as God is the one who creates life. Who do we think we are to even utter the idea to change the course of what God says is right and wrong?

We are too proud as Americans and I pray God forgives us. I pray for this country because it’s getting really hard to see the good anymore. They tell people who are on a path toward success and notoriety to “Never forget where you came from” . But we have. Not only did we forget but we want to deny it even happened. We want to change the words of the Constitution and the Bible to suit our selfish tendencies and ideologies. God help us.

I’m ashamed of what we’ve done and there’s no one to blame but ourselves. We’ve allowed cracks to splinter the foundation of this nation and very soon we will collapse if we don’t fix it. The most ridiculous part is how everyone thinks it’s the economy that’s going to fix it. What a shame.

To my children, please forgive us… to my parents and grandparents, please forgive us… to our Founding Fathers, please forgive us… to God, please forgive us…
